A double J ureteral stent is inserted into the ureter to prevent or treat obstruction of the urine flow from the kidney into the bladder. J shaped curls are present at both ends to hold the tube in place and prevent migration.

A stent is a flexible, small hollow tube that is placed into the ureter. The main purpose of a stent is to hold the ureter open and maintain drainage of urine. These tubes when inserted into the ureter, allow urine to flow from the kidney to the bladder, in cases of blockage to the normal flow.
